A different series of tables is created from each individual log, all with their own unique characteristics.
The Furry Creek Series Log
Click to Enlarge The Furry Creek series of tables are crafted from a salvaged dead Douglas-fir tree. The log was lifted by helicopter from above Furry Creek in Howe Sound, B.C.(Canada) in 2002 then carefully sliced with a bandsaw to produce the table blanks. The tree was approximately 800 years old, however, insects and decay have removed several hundred years of growth in many areas. Tables still contain 400 to 500 years of growth, in fine grain high quality wood, that has acquired beautiful colouring from lying dead in the forest.
The Furry Creek Series Table Slabs
Click to Enlarge The tables range in size from 6 to over 15 feet in length. Table widths vary, from 36 to 40 inches wide, and are over two inches thick when finished. Small diameter knots are located in the heartwood, bordered by fine-grained clear wood on the outer edges. One spectacular piece is completely clear of knots throughout its 14 foot length. After a year of drying and stabilization the blanks are now ready to be meticulously finished into magnificent tables. After being planed and sanded level the tops are finished with an oil-based application to preserve the wood’s natural sheen and colours. Table bases will be custom-made to match your specific architectural style. The bases of our showpiece tables are examples of timberframe style, incorporating clear sections of the same Furry Creek Douglas-fir or including Garibaldi Granite. Each is designed and hand-made in Westcoast timberframe style, which is very popular in Whistler, B.C.
